Introducing the new Goodnewspaper: The Helpers Edition!

One of the founding elements of the Goodnewspaper is our collective admiration of Fred Rogers, who is famously quoted as saying, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

While Rogers’ mother wasn’t specific about what these Helpers would look like — to us, Helpers are simply our neighbors and friends with the tools and talents to care for one another every day.

The Helpers are:

🪧 Standing beside us at protests

🍲 Feeding us a warm meal

🏞 Protecting our public lands

🤳 Educating us on TikTok

⚖️ Redefining justice to encompass a more equitable and empathetic ethos

As you read the stories of Helpers doing each of these things (and so many more) in The Helpers Edition, we hope it’s both a resource to celebrate some of 2022’s most commendable Helpers — and a reminder to applaud the vulnerability and humanity it takes to seek support, too.

Because while we can all give a little help sometimes — we all need a little help sometimes, too. And both are equally commendable and admirable.
