Goodnewspaper: The 2022 Helpers Edition
Our beloved Mister Rogers once said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ’Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
What’s so iconic about this quote is that, as positive as Fred Rogers was, he doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the heartbreak and injustice in the world. It’s a matter of when we’ll see scary things in the news, not if.
And when we do, Rogers and his mother remind us that there will always be people there helping, too.
2021 certainly had some scary things in the news. We collectively felt that weight as it manifested into burnout, exhaustion, and heartbreak. All of that is real and valid.
And in the midst of it, there were incredible people who stepped up to push back against the scary things in the news: The Helpers.
🗞 Every year, we make a new Helpers Edition of the Goodnewspaper, and we’re thrilled to announce the 2022 issue is here! It includes stories about Helpers stepping in to support refugees, the LGBTQ+community, and Asian-Americans, an 8-year-old Helper, climate Helpers, and even a Helper called @harrystyles. 😉
Our hope is that each of the stories will be an encouragement and inspiration — and that by celebrating them in January, we’ll all be better able to find (and join) more Helpers throughout the whole year.
Here’s to looking for — and becoming — the Helpers in the world this year.
